MAMMOGRAPHY
Do not use colognes, perfumes, deodorants, or body powders prior to exams.
A two-piece outfit should be worn for comfort.
STEREOTACTIC or ULTRASOUND GUIDED CORE BIOPSY
Specific prep information will be given when your appointment is scheduled.
BONE DENSITOMETRY (DEXA)
A two-piece outfit should be worn for comfort.
PREP FOR BARIUM ENEMA EXAMS
1. The patient is to obtain two 10 oz. bottles of Citrate of Magnesia.
2. Please consult your physician if you have kidney, liver or heart disease to be sure this prep is safe for you.
3. Take any medication that you normally do unless directed differently by your physician.
4. Prep Instructions:
On the day before the exam, the patient is to drink only liquids for breakfast, lunch and dinner. No food is allowed.
At 4 p.m., drink one 10 oz. bottle of Magnesium Citrate. This may be diluted with a clear lemon/lime soda or juice. Follow with additional clear fluids. Drink at least five 8 oz. portions of a clear liquid.
At 8 p.m., drink the second bottle of Magnesium Citrate. Drink 40 oz. of clear liquid before retiring.
On the day of the exam, the patient is to have nothing to eat or drink prior to the exam. Normal medications may be taken with a sip of wáter.
CLEAR LIQUIDS ALLOWED: Water, clear fruit juices (apple, white grape), Gatorade, bouillon, Jello, coffee (no more than 8 oz.), and tea.
THE BARIUM ENEMA SHOULD BE SCHEDULED BEFORE AN UPPER GI SERIES.
PREP FOR I.V.P. EXAMS
N.P.O. (nothing to eat or drink ) after midnight the night before the exam.
Take any medication that you normally do unless directed differently by your physician.
UPPER GI SERIES (UGI)
Nothing by mouth after midnight, do not smoke or chew gum.
*Children under age 2 – Bring an empty bottle. Nothing by mouth 4 hours prior to exam.
SMALL BOWEL SERIES (SBS)
Nothing by mouth after midnight. Take two Dulcolax suppositories 2 hours before the exam.
PELVIC SONOGRAM*; TRANSVAGINAL (if indicated)
Finish drinking 32 ounces of clear liquids (no carbonated drinks) 1 hour prior to the start of your appointment time. Do not empty your bladder prior to the study.
ABDOMINAL SONOGRAM (Including GB, Liver, Kidneys, etc.)*
Nothing by mouth 8 hours prior to the exam. Fat-free meals 24 hours prior to exam.
TRANSRECTAL SONOGRAM (Prostate)*
Patient should take a Fleet enema 1 hour prior to the examination.
CT (COMPUTERIZED TOMOGRAPHY)*
Specific prep information for exams requiring intravenous contrast injections will be given when your appointment is scheduled.
NUCLEAR MEDICINE
Specific prep information will be given when your appointment is scheduled.
MRI
Specific prep information will be given when your appointment is scheduled.
*These tests must be scheduled before any barium procedure.
